Recently diagnosed with a rare form of Leukemia, I had to choose between a potentially life saving bone marrow transplant or this watch. Yes, I went for the watch. Using Amazon Prime, the watch arrived in two shakes of a lambs tail and I saved a small fortune on tax. The watch looks great on my withered wrist with the added bonus that I find I can now speak fluent Portuguese, which is a great mystere to me. Yes, the eye of a needle is small, but this Portugeuse Tourbillon is way smaller than a camel, so will easily accompany me to the otherside. You can’t put a price on such peace of mind and functionality! Plus, it really is amazing how much money I saved by buying this watch through Amazon. After all was said and done, I still had enough left over to take the whole family out to dinner.

IWC IW504207 Portuguese Tourbillon Mystere

The IWC company is amongst the world’s best-known manufacturers of high-end timepieces, the company offering a very wide range of choices for most consumer segments. So, it’s no wonder that its lineup also includes quite a few very exclusive models, like the one you’re about to see as follows, namely the Portuguese Tourbillon Mystère, launched in the first half of 2006.

The IWC IW504207 is available in several versions (from the perspective of the casing and bracelet), users being able to choose between a version made from 18-carat white gold and accompanied by a dark brown crocodile leather strap and one manufactured from 18-carat red gold with a black crocodile leather strap.

The IWC IW504207 from IWC is one of the world’s most expensive such devices, as it retails for an estimate 75,000 US dollars, a sum not too many users are willing to pay (this probably being the reason why only around 250 units are made each year).

As the name says it, the main point of attraction of the IWC IW504207 from IWC is represented by the tourbillon, a tiny mechanism moving in space against a black background, completely free and apparently detached from any form of drive. Apart from the 250 pieces in 18 ct. white gold, the Portuguese Tourbillon Mystère is available in an 18 ct. red gold alloy (5N) with an unusually high copper content. This creates a strong red colour and makes the material appear darker. The color of the case makes an attractive contrast to the black dial.

A transparent sapphire glass back cover provides an unimpeded view of the large 50900-calibre movement. And since we’re on the subject of the movement mechanism, it’s also quite interesting to note that it delivers, beside Swiss-grade precision, a very impressive power reserve, of up to 7 days (168 hours), as well as a frequency of 19,800 vibrations per hour (2.75 Hz). This is partly due to the fact that the assembly includes no less than 44 jewels, as well as a Pellaton automatic winding system and a Breguet spring.

Of my collection of watches, this is one of my most used. The dial is exquisite and the craftsmanship is superb. The Turbillon; although not necessary in this day and age, shows off on the watch handsomely. The subtle undertones and size match with just about anything I decide to wear for the morning/day/night and I have yet to have any problems with the movement, like most problems I have experienced with the Rolexs or Brietlings. Overall I would give this watch 4 out of 5 stars as it is a decent utility watch and occasional dinner accessory. I would recommend this watch if you travel quite frequently and need a time piece that will withstand the rigors associated with it. Also if you are a gentleman that requires an accessory for casual business dinners or outings.

This is an excellent watch. It is certainly a better investment than the house I had to sell for it. It is beautiful and nowadays I check the time at least once every minute – with this watch I have never been late.

The makers of the Tourbillon Myst?re Watch are obviously aware of the “Roger Nelson” mental disorder some people possess that compels the afflicted to obtain any item with any sort of symbol associated with it. After selling off my rare and VERY used Frank Gorshin “Riddler” costume to another R#@!N sufferer, I purchased this watch. I must say I was a bit disappointed when I set the watch to invisible and my wrist became invisible. I was hoping I would become invisible or at the very least the watch would become invisible. And it wasn’t even the wrist that was wearing the watch..that would have been a little bit cool – no it was my other wrist!
All in all it’s a pretty good watch for the money though I have to question the purchase. Repeatedly.
